This position is responsible for providing support to the instructional process with specific responsibility for directing overall site operations, services, and staff at a middle school; providing information and serving as a resource to others; enforcing established policies and regulatory requirements; coordinating school activities and addressing issues, situations and/or problems that arise on campus or with enrolled students.  Serves as a member of the leadership team.



  • Promotes a positive culture for the school site of responsibility. Sets the expectations for the students and all building staff under their charge.
  • Ensures effective design and delivery of student instructional programs.
  • Ensures that professional learning opportunities are available and delivered to promote continued educator learning and growing.
  • Serves as an instructional leader providing support and guidance as requested based on knowledge and experience.
  • Supervises instructional personnel monitoring performance, providing for professional growth and achieving overall objectives.
  • Continues to increase personal knowledge, skills and abilities to ensure implementation of best practices.
  • Ensures compliance with all state statutes, board of education policies, administrative practices and procedures, as well as employee handbook.
  • Manages the school site and organizational systems by ensuring the proper structure is in place, leading educators and staff to support their performance success and effectively and efficiently manage resources.
  • Conducts meetings as needed to coordinate activities and ensure outcomes achieve school, district, and/or state objectives.
  • Ensures staff and educators are following proper ethical standards and performing their responsibilities with integrity; holds those who fall short accountable.
  • Delegates responsibility for a variety of administrative functions to Assistant Principals and other personnel managing the workload efficiently.
  • Develops a wide variety of reports making recommendations to administrative personnel and providing guidance for curriculum, instruction, assessment, and student achievement.
  • Evaluates assigned personnel ensuring achievement of standards and maximized performance.
  • Facilitates communication between personnel, students, parents, and community members evaluating situations, solving problems and/or resolving conflicts.
  • Implements policies, procedures and/or processes maintaining safe and efficient school operations within district guidelines.
  • Monitors programs establishing an effective learning climate.
  • Prepares a variety of materials in written and electronic form documenting activities, providing reference and /or conveying information.
  • Responds to inquiries from a variety of internal and external stakeholders identifying relevant issues and recommending or implementing a remediation plan.
  • Represents the school within community forums maintaining ongoing community support for educational goals and/or assisting with issues related to school government.
  • Performs other related duties as required/assigned.




Education and Experience

  • Master’s Degree in job-related area from an accredited college or university, required.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of job related experience with increasing levels of responsibility is required.


Certificates, Licenses and Other Special Requirements

  • Must have Missouri Administrative Certificate, required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain “Highly Qualified” status as defined by Missouri’s Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, required.
  • Must pass a Criminal Background Clearance, the results of which must be satisfactory to the District, required.

  • Knowledge is required to perform algebra and/or geometry; review and interpret highly technical information, write technical materials, and/or speak persuasively to implement desired actions; and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions.
  • Knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include elementary curriculum, instruction, and assessment practices; child development, brain development and best practices in education; curriculum development; safety practices and procedures; conflict resolution; and crisis de-escalation techniques.
  • Skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include effective hiring techniques; budget management.
  • Ability to schedule a significant number of activities, meetings and/or events; routinely gather, collate and/or classify data; and use job-related equipment.
  • Ability is required to independently work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; analyze data utilizing a variety of complex processes; and operate equipment using standardized methods.
  • Ability to work with a significant diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with data of widely varied types and/or purposes; and utilize a variety of job-related equipment.
  • Ability to analyze issues and create action plans.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

  • Work environment is primarily inside, where the noise and temperature levels are moderate.
  • The work is light work that requires exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force to move objects.
  • Must possess the physical ability to perceive the nature of sounds, make rational decisions through sound logic and deductive processes, express or exchange ideas by the spoken word, substantial movements (motions) with the hands, wrists, and/or fingers, and discern letters or numbers at a given distance.
  • Additionally, the following physical abilities are required: balancing, climbing, crawling, crouching, feeling, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, manual dexterity, mental acuity, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity and walking.
