Position: Director of Special Services

Qualifications:  

1. Advanced Degree with an emphasis in Special Education / Administration.
2. A minimum of 5 years prior experience in the direct instruction of special education students.    
3. Certification required: Special Education Administrator.   
4. A minimum of 5 years prior administrative / supervisory experience preferred.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

1. Knowledge of inclusive practices
2. Ability to lead large and small groups through change efforts
3. Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

Performance Responsibilities:

1. Supervision / Evaluation of all Special Education Personnel in partnership with principals.
2. Oversight of instruction of pre-K-12 Special Education Instructional Services.
3. Oversight of Special Education budgetary compliance. 
4. Collaboration with building principals and regular education staff. 
5. Serve as a liaison between the District and DESE on items related to special education and Tiered Monitoring Reviews.
6. Provides leadership in the planning and implementation of district special education instructional programs. 
7. Serve as a liaison between the district and private, parochial schools. 
8. Management of student 504 Accommodation plans.
9. Coordination of all personnel associated with assistive services.  (speech, OT, PT, etc.)
10. Highly proficient in instructional coaching and modeling for teachers.
11. Extensive knowledge in special education law / due process of students / best practice.
12. State / Federal reporting.
13. Arrange for Independent Education Evaluations as needed. 
14. Coordinate the teams and resources needed for students being considered for private or residential placements. 
15. Oversee and coordinate ESY
16. Other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.
