Manages the business/financial affairs of the district under the direction of the Superintendent of Schools.

REPORTS TO: Superintendent of Schools                                             

EXAMPLE(S) of WORK PERFORMED:

 

  • Assumes responsibility for budget development and long-range financial planning, including budgetary control.
  • Directs the custodianship of public funds including cash/investment management.
  • Establishes and supervises a program of accounting and reporting the financial affairs of the school district.
  • Supervises financial receipts and disbursements.
  • Supervises the payroll function of the school district.
  • Supervises the management of the food service program, transportation, facilities and federal programs.
  • Coordinates the property and liability insurance programs.
  • Develops and maintains communications with state and federal agencies and the financial community.
  • Coordinates reviews of appropriate areas with board attorney, independent auditors, board advisers, and district staff.
  • Directs the preparation of periodic business and financial reports to Superintendent, the Board of Education, external agencies, and members of the general public.
  • Assist the Superintendent of Schools in the recommendation of board policies and administrative regulations to guide the district’s business and finance functions and delivery systems.
  • Ensures procedural compliance with state and federal regulations, board policies, and administrative regulations.
  • Coordinates and prepares audit information with outside audit firm.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

               

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

When a specific assignment has additional or different ESSENTIAL FUNCTION requirements, the differences will be discussed at the time of assignment.

 

  • Regular attendance is required to provide support to the department and district.
  • Requires independent travel to work sites within the district.
  • Reviews and interprets printed reports to obtain information necessary for decision making.
  • Operates computer hardware for programming or applications.
  • Prepares and maintains written reports.
  • Provides written procedures for plan preparation and implementation.
  • Develops information for written reports and correspondence to officials inside and outside the district 
  • Conducts individual or group meetings.
  • Provides oversight and evaluative supervision of assigned staff.
  • Observes and evaluates employee performance.
  • Visually obtains information from computer monitor.

Physical Demands  (Strength)

 

- Exerts up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or

- Exerts a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.

 

NOTE: includes personal movement and sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods.

 

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:

 

Vocational Preparation: (Experience)

Over 5 years of management experience up to and including 10 years.  Experience working in a school district setting preferred.

 

Education Preparation: (Formal and Informal)

 

Requires Master’s degree in School or Business Administration.

CPA preferred.
